THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Anthony's Fine Food & Wine Restaurant Review:
This combination market-wine store-restaurant is a well-kept secret, located in an affluent foothill community that has always suffered a dearth of interesting dining options. But here a young, affable chef/owner turns out an intriguing menu of mostly small plates with Mediterranean, often Spanish inspirations. You might begin with a caprese salad incorporating quality burrata, blistered shishito peppers or a gratin of asparagus. Curry-dusted soft-shell crab, served with chili sauce and aïoli, is among the best bets, while merguez sausage is paired with giant white Spanish beans stewed in paprika-infused tomato sauce. A charcuterie board includes pâtés, cured meats and rillettes, and there’s a good cheese selection, too. For dessert, you might find bread pudding with bourbon dulce de leche or simple but satisfying chocolate crostini with sea salt. The casual space is inviting and homespun, with accessories like a chandelier crafted from repurposed wine bottles. Speaking of wine, there is always an interesting selection by the glass, as well as craft beers.
