Aquitaine Bis is a deceiving place. Diners fondle cocktails while awaiting their tables. Cool lounge music oozes from the sound system. The room is swank and shadowy thanks to designer Peter Niemitz. But Aquitaine Bis is in the suburbs---Chestnut Hill, to be exact---and has the graying crowd and strip mall location to prove it. So does that matter? Not to anyone who needs a leisurely break from the area’s posh shopping options, one that strikes just the right civilized note. The kitchen’s streamlined approach to bistro cuisine yields reimagined classics like weinerschnitzel with blue cheese sauce and house-smoked salmon with whipped caper goat cheese. The results don't always measure up to the expectations conferred upon it by its lineage (it's a spin-off of Aquitaine in the South End), but the charming gestalt trumps the details.
