THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Astra West Restaurant Review

: The only LA outpost of super-chef Charlie Palmer's empire, Astra West caters to a lunch crowd of interior designers working in and around the Pacific Design Center. The menu is simple, straightforward and inexpensive for the level of quality. There are salads, sandwiches, pastas, grilled entrées and a handful of specials. But doing lunch is not where this dining establishment truly shines. At night, Astra West doubles as one of the city's most fantastic, flexible entertainment spaces. The event planning staff caters to the needs of everything from birthday and company Christmas parties to major studio record releases. The event menus are as complex as the restaurant's lunch menu is simple. What other party venue offers chilled cucumber consommé with heirloom tomatoes and shaved radish, foie gras terrine with Riesling jelly, cod cake with black truffle sauce, and a ragoût of runner beans and pan-roasted duck breast and leg confit with fava bean succotash? But until you get the chance to experience Astra at night, consider dropping by for lunch at a place where simple foods get super-chef treatment.
