Next door to the Ice House comedy club is Aun, a tiny bento box of a space with a lime green accent wall, spare art and an old-fashioned deli case. The restaurant is completely unpretentious, yet possesses a simple, dignified charm. Energetic owner Yuki Komada serves what she labels authentic home-style Japanese cuisine, with an emphasis on fresh organic ingredients. Main plates---items like yellowtail teriyaki, vegetables rolled in slices of beef or a trio of croquette-like tofu burgers with dipping sauce---are served with miso soup and two seasonal deli sides, which might include avocado-tropical fruit salad, couscous and sesame tuna-potato salad. Brown rice bowls are available with veggies, chicken or seafood, and plump gyoza dumplings arrive sizzling with an attractive golden patina.
