| This is a longtime Eagle Rock institution, but only recently---thanks to dedicated new owners---is Auntie Em's worthy of note. The unassuming eatery---the quaint décor consists of ceiling fans, colorful plastic tablecloths and framed vintage menus---may be best known for its brownies and coconut cupcakes (reputedly in demand by visiting celebrities) but the fresh salads and sandwiches make for great lunches. Consider the Carolina-style pulled pork, egg salad or roasted veggie sandwiches, all on La Brea Bakery bread. Salads include the likes of Chinese chicken, tuna-avocado and roasted beets with goat cheese. Eagle Rock, rapidly being discovered by non-locals, is lucky to have Auntie Em's! |
