| A local favorite for more than 20 years, Avanti came onto the scene when California Pizza Kitchen was just getting started on the Westside. In a contemporary space with a prominent wood-fired oven, diners tuck into thin-crusted pies topped with duck sausage, sun-dried tomatoes and spinach; or shrimp, scallops, tomatoes and leeks. One of the more successful varieties layers paper-thin slices of glazed apples with roasted garlic, peppers, almonds and Gorgonzola. A full menu of salads and pastas is offered here, too, as well as traditional pizzas. The wine list is more of an afterthought, while desserts include tiramisu and New York-style cheesecake. |
