Green Street Restaurant Restaurant Review:

Pasadenans have made breakfast on the patio of Green Street a popular tradition (the place celebrated its 30th anniversary), whether to discuss a business deal, linger over the Sunday paper or catch up on some gossip. There are few places that rival the omelets, and the salmon Benedict features not smoked fish but a lovely poached filet with a relatively light hollandaise. For lunch, choose from a wide array of inventive salads and sandwiches, including an appropriately rare ahi burger. The signature salad, the Diane (a thoroughly tossed sesame-dressed affair with crunchy Asian noodles and almonds), is alone worth the trip. Dinner entrées include steaks, honey mustard-glazed salmon, garlicky roasted chicken, plus some Southwestern-inspired items. Domestic Kobe sliders, plump juicy patties on buttered grilled rolls, are offered as an appetizer, but the trio of miniature burgers is filling enough for an entrée, reflecting consistently generous portions. The restaurant's zucchini bread is legendary. Hidden off the major thoroughfare, Green Street succeeds in being both a well-kept secret and a local institution.
