Axe Restaurant Review: Pronounced "Ashay," Axe is the Portuguese spelling of an African word meaning the energy of gods and goddesses. The restaurant’s focus is not on mythological forces, but on organic, farm-fresh products. Start with little dishes like goat cheese and whole-grain wheat toasts with roasted beets, curried butternut squash soup, and roasted cauliflower cooked in a paprika vinaigrette. Entrées include scallops on shell beans and cherry tomatoes, rabbit ragù with pappardelle, and duck leg confit with apple butter. Desserts feature homemade cardamom ice cream and chocolate brownie pudding. A concise wine list has several French varietals, in addition to a few specialty California selections. |
