THIS RESTAURANT HAS CHANGED NAMES Barlo Kitchen + Cocktails Restaurant Review:

Venice Beach’s Hotel Erwin is home to this cozy lobby restaurant, which has intimate quarters in rather stark, industrial environs. Neon-colored murals bedeck the outdoor walls, while bright, multicolored light fixtures contrast with the mostly black and gray interior and adjoining patio. Chef Jason Wiggin’s well-focused dinner menu is broken into three groupings: “Smaller Plates,” “Larger Plates” and “Greens & Things.” Soulful shrimp and grits combine to make a hearty appetizer, satisfying with a dense brown butter jus. A garlic-glazed flatiron steak is reminiscent of its gaucho-style counterpart, with a chimichurri-like herb gremolata, and the chicken burger is topped with feta, arugula and puréed mint. Roasted Brussels sprouts are served with the welcomed addition of cherries, along with the requisite bacon. A small wine list is weighted with producers from the Central Coast and Santa Ynez Valley. Sophisticated craft cocktails include the “Howling Wolves” made with Montelobos mezcal, green chartreuse, Licor 43, vanilla bitters, lime juice and cinnamon. Breakfast options include blueberry ricotta pancakes and a country Benedict built with biscuits, sausage and gravy.
