Barney's is a relaxing neighborhood tavern set in the midst of Old Pasadena. Barney Hollingsworth opened his general store in the late 1800s on the northwest corner of Fair Oaks and Colorado. This eatery, named in honor of the general store, is very close to the original site. The walls are covered with historic photos of the city and the Rose Parade. There's an extensive list of hefty sandwiches, including a dozen burgers. Other options include Samuel Adams beer-battered halibut, large salads and pasta plates like mac ‘n’ cheese carbonara or lobster raviolis. Substantial entrées are highlighted by fall-off-the-bone baby-back ribs, charbroiled salmon with lemon-dill sauce and comfort foods like meatloaf and pot roast. Retro appetizers include fried mozzarella sticks and potato skins. To drink, there’s an almost encyclopedic list of domestic and imported beers, many on draft. A breakfast menu is offered on weekends, and the patio, where the people-watching is as good as the food, is dog-friendly.
