The Bearded Frog Restaurant Review: French proprietor Michel Mahe's oeuvre includes some of Vermont's top dining destinations (his Ferrisburg debut, Starry Night Café, remains a favorite). Patrons of the Frog will find charming ambience in this restaurant's dark fabric booths, wood-hewn bar and low ceiling. Dozens of wines by the glass complement a heady selection of handcrafted cocktails, like Vermont Gold vodka martinis and seasonal blueberry mojitos. Savory starters include crunchy, lemon tofu and venison "cigars" rolled in maple horseradish. For heartier fare, don't miss spicy chorizo meatloaf, or the squash bisque with sweet potato, a rich purée basted in creamy sherry. Bison flank makes a lean and flavorful entrée, but roasted duck and Mahe's lamb earn top billing. Finish with fresh sorbets like mango rose petal, or the deep-dish peach pie with tamarind coulis and basil ice cream. This staff knows their stuff, so you're in good hands.
