: Chef Koichiro Kikuchi, who put West Hollywood's La Bohème on the culinary map, is developing his talents in his tiny personal restaurant tucked into a strip mall on the edge of Beverly Hills. He does all the cooking and the service is by his wife, Akiyo. Only 32 diners at a time get to enjoy his work as he presents his East-West fusion cuisine. From the short, ever-changing menu you might find marinated sardines and vegetable yogurt dressing, or miso-marinated cod in a goat cheese reduction. Tap from the smart, well-priced, albeit succinct wine list; you may finish with an espresso but no ocha here. Desserts are usually light and dominated by sorbets. If the phone rings a while when you call for reservations, let it---both pairs of capable hands are usually busy, after all, and service can slow to a crawl.
