THIS ESTABLISHMENT IS CLOSED Adjacent to the Fremont Centre Theatre in quaint South Pasadena, Bistro K's handful of tables---smartly dressed in white linen, candles and flowers---spill out of a tiny ochre-hued dining room filled with contemporary art onto a manicured lawn. Sadly, a change in ownership has resulted in the innovative dishes of former chef Laurent Quenioux (e.g. escargots-stuffed enchiladas, sweetbread egg rolls) being replaced with a more middle-of-the-road menu that needs considerable work on execution. The restaurant’s fare now suits its name, as classic bistro dishes like escargots Bourgogne, onion soup gratinée, lamb shank and filet mignon in Roquefort sauce dominate. However, the cooking has not yet been elevated to standards commensurate with the relative high prices. There are several good bistros in South Pasadena---this is not yet among them.
