| "Blind Pig" was Prohibition code for a speakeasy, so the restaurant’s name reflects both the Butchertown location’s meat packing history and the pub's off-the-restaurant-rows address. Indeed, the Blind Pig is a carnivore’s dream. The dinner selection includes a “Meat Plate” consisting of house-made sausages and bacon, and the proud menu declaration in bold face “NO VEGETABLES.” A few vegetables do crop up in the shepherd’s pie, as well as sides accompanying the bacon-wrapped pork loin chop. A bone thrown to any vegetarian who dares cross the threshold is a garlic-scented ratatouille, available as a side or entrée. Additional dishes complemented by the selections of draft craft ales and top-flight international wines include bison and pork meatballs served over pappardelle, cassoulet, chicken cacciatore, and pan-seared trout. Bacon-infused rye is the key ingredient in the house Manhattan and the must-have dessert is bacon brittle butter pecan ice cream. |
