| A true undiscovered gem, this charming continental spot offers old-fashioned service and a warm atmosphere that keep diners coming back. Brandywine will never be known for its culinary creativity, but quality ingredients go into every well-prepared item listed on the chalkboard menu: veal Oscar, bouillabaisse, sweetbreads in demi-glace with a hint of mustard, frogs’ legs Provençal and good paella (which requires one day's advance notice and is available only on weekdays). Slightly more contemporary specials---dishes such as sesame-crusted ahi in soy-ginger sauce, Kurobuta pork with morel mushrooms, and a macadamia-crusted wild Alaskan salmon in Champagne cream sauce---are also offered. Many items, such as the Caesar and spinach salads, are prepared tableside, as well as cherries jubilee and crêpes Suzette (available by request). The dining room feels more like a cozy living room, filled with just a handful of nicely appointed tables, and a series of completely private booths are ideal for intimate conversation. |
