Brooklyn Girl Eatery Restaurant Review: In homage to --- you guessed it --- Brooklyn, the spacious, urban-style room boasts portraits of Woody Allen, Henry Miller and a graffitied Anna Wintour, as well as subway signs and black-iron birdcages over light fixtures. The New American fare includes flatbreads like prosciutto with Black Mission figs, wild rocket and Taleggio, or Carlsbad-raised mussels bathed in a fragrant Thai chili-lemon grass sauce with grilled bread for dipping. We suggest the kale Caesar salad with bacon and egg or fresh fish tacos for lunch. At night, diners enjoy shrimp and chorizo nestled into creamy polenta with queso fresco or bacon-wrapped Vietnamese meatballs as starters. Chef Colin Murray, an alum of Cowboy Star, doesn’t mess around when it comes to his 14-ounce Duroc pork chop, which he brines for 48 hours and then grills; Brussels sprouts with a hint of maple and savory porchetta bits ring the pig. But also try sides like fresh-from-the-oven cornbread drizzled with local honey. Other entrées include herb-crusted seared ahi and a wood-fired whole fish. Brooklyn cheesecake is a fitting conclusion to this culinary tale. Be sure to check out the cool pantry that offers casual bites and takeaway eats.
