| We thought of categorizing this national chain as a theme restaurant---the theme being a style of rollicking, roll-up-your-sleeves-and-dig-in family Italian eatery introduced by immigrants to this country around 1900. Forget delicate Tuscan cuisine. “Buca small” would qualify as a large portion anywhere else. “Mio,” or mine, could easily serve two. Bring a party of at least four (more is better) and share huge platters of okay spaghetti and meatballs, lasagna and chicken cacciatore consisting of a whole chicken in tomato sauce spiked with mushrooms, garlic and capers. For dessert, consider chocolate cannoli, tiramisu or apple crostata. Given the oversize portions, expect to bring home a shopping bag full of leftovers. |
