THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Buca Giovanni Restaurant Review:

Executive chef Vic Casanova is a passionate man, and it comes out in his flavorful dishes, many of which include a little fiery kick. The menu is regional Italian, with an emphasis on seasonal and organic ingredients. In the spring, zucchini blossoms arrive with a tempura-like batter and stuffed with rosemary-infused ricotta filling. Artichoke caponata is simultaneously spicy and sweet, studded with capers and slivers of green olive. There is an enticing selection of homemade pastas, including gnocchi in a hearty tomato sauce with mozzarella, basil and that fiery little kick again. Entrées are made with premium meats, like a braised Niman Ranch pork shank resting on creamy polenta, and a chicken cacciatore with Bloomsdale spinach. Meats and fish may arrive slightly overdone, but are not short on flavor. Desserts are rustic and based on subtle flavors, like a dense bread pudding-like ricotta torte brightened with candied citrus peel. Downstairs is like a charming cantina, with brick walls and tiled floors, while the upstairs has a few tables with a view of the street, and more interestingly, ringside seats right next to the kitchen. The vibe is friendly, service is personable, and odds are good you'll meet the chef.
