This appealingly decorated earth-toned café is a pleasant departure from the mostly over-the-top tacky 6th Street Indian eateries located a few blocks away. All of this is not surprising considering the owners of Café Spice also preside over the esteemed Dawat Uptown. The food, though less formal than at its elegant sibling, is simple and well prepared and makes liberal use of fragrant Indian spices while eschewing the greasiness that unfortunately characterizes all too many Indian dishes. Curries are always fiery and tasty, and dishes like tandoori chicken and even seafood, which is so often disappointing in Indian restaurants, are brightly flavored.
