Chandni Restaurant Review

: We keep forgetting we're eating at a vegetarian restaurant when we dine at Chandni, so satisfying and varied is its menu of more than six dozen different Indian dishes. Some of our favorites include palak paneer, mildly spiced creamed spinach with cubes of fresh curd cheese; alu began, a mixture of potatoes and eggplant with tomatoes, onions and herbs; bhindi masala, a tender-crisp stir-fry of okra; and malai kofta, little dumplings of vegetables and curd cheese. Eight different kinds of dal, Indian-style dried lentils or beans, provide stick-to-the-ribs protein. Good versions of traditional breads include naan and roti quickly baked to charred-edge perfection in a tandoori oven. If you're at all uncertain about committing to a full-blown vegetarian dinner, try the bargain-priced lunch buffet, featuring an assortment of dishes --- including three vegetables, a dal, basmati rice, naan and dessert --- that changes daily.
