Playa del Rey is an oddly isolated area, cut off from the rest of the region by a protected wetland on one side and LAX on the other. The result is a village-like atmosphere that supports a number of quirky bars and restaurants. Chloe is the only one that departs from the generally hyper-casual atmosphere---it's a modern, stylish place done in pale colors and cushioned divans. The menu changes monthly but nearly always has some game dishes, with elk a specialty. Foie gras has been paired with Vietnamese five-spice, mango and an accompanying glass of Sauterne, typical of the adventurous and successful blending of cuisines here. The wine list is exceptional and the bartender knows his stuff. If you ask for suggestions you will be well advised and may be favored with tastes from the excellent selection of wines by the glass.
