City Diner Restaurant Review: From the chrome and glass fixtures to the black and white checkered tile floor: no design detail in this diner has been overlooked, and that goes for the bar stools and menu, too. It's a spot that jumps and jives to the 50s tunes playing in the background. This concept restaurant was created from the ground up by two well-known local chefs, Al Levinsohn (Kincaid Grill) and Jens Nannestad (Southside Bistro). For breakfast, there are omelets, hot cakes, and Huevos Spenardos, the local name for the spicy Southern classic. Classic diner lingo is printed on the menu to make ordering fun for kids. For example, “The Gobbler on a Raft with Tears” is a turkey sandwich on toast with onions. Choose fries, a green salad, soup or pineapple slaw (crisp and tangy) to round out an order. Kids of all ages will insist on ordering milkshakes, a house specialty. Wine is served in tumblers, and beer is also available. |
