| Colors earned a legion of headlines when it opened in late 2005 thanks to its owners---the waiters, chefs and busboys who run this cooperative restaurant near Astor Place---all former employees of Windows on the World, the top-of-the-World-Trade-Center restaurant that had a tragic ending. The global-themed eatery is set in a long narrow Art Deco space. The menu, separated by continent, as well as by entrées and tapas dishes, whirls around the world. The curried Jamaican chicken tartlet spices up your taste buds for the forthcoming entrées. The Moroccan zatar roasted duck breast and crisp leg confit comes with a spiced sweet potato pudding and collard greens. A passion fruit cheesecake will sweeten the end of your meal. Diners will want to cheer for Colors, not just because of its dramatic back-story, but because the owner-waiters’ excitement about the restaurant is infectious. |
