THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Corner Bakery Restaurant Review:
LA's first off-shoot of the Mid-Western bakery chain, the Corner Bakery isn't exactly the quirky, neighborhood shop the name implies, but rather the bake-shop answer to the modern day chain restaurant reality. A counter service café, the restaurant is far more charming than you would expect from an inexpensive, cookie-cutter restaurant, with comfortable booths and wood accents as well as a courtyard dining area overlooking the bustle of Farmer's Market. The food is remarkably good, though a bit pricey for caféteria-style dining. In addition to a daily selection of breads and baked goods, the café offers made-to-order salads, cold sandwiches and hot panini as well as several daily soups. There's also a breakfast menu featuring egg dishes, fruit and granola, but what we like best are the soft pretzel breads, decadent chocolate chip brownies and the streusel-topped muffins.
