Crabtree's Kittle House Restaurant Review: Crabtree’s Kittle House is a Westchester institution --- elegant but not pretentious, formal but not outdated. Owner John Crabtree has a loyal following of local celebrities and happy regulars that frequent any one of his many dining rooms, or perhaps the ultra private 15-seat table adjacent to a wine cellar: 67,000 bottles from all over the world and an array of just under 6,000 labels. Starters feature a hearty strozzapreti and spicy lamb ragoût with cherry tomatoes, mint, Parmigiano-Reggiano and paprika jus, and a balance of sweet and delicate flavors in the crab cake of Maine peekytoe crab meat, coconut snow, pineapple, basil seeds and tamarind. Entrées feature complex, well-executed delicacies like trap-caught Maryland soft shell crabs with hazelnuts, fingerlings and broccolini in a blood orange reduction; trout with toasted almonds, parsnip-apple purée and apricot grenobloise; and roasted chicken with Brussels sprouts, king trumpet mushrooms, shishito peppers, Yukon Gold purée and lemon thyme jus. Dessert may include a bold double-chocolate espresso and hazelnut tart, and a moist-centered chocolate cake wrapped in a thin, flaky crust. The Tap Room is a more dressed-down, copper-ceilinged dining alternative. |
