Dish Restaurant Review: Thrift store art intermingles with award plaques along the walls at Dish, creating a down-home atmosphere. Good starters include fried green tomatoes, home-made pimento cheese, deviled eggs, collard dip, roasted garlic and red pepper hummus, and biscuits and gravy. The signature chicken and dumplings relies for its goodness on a butter-basted roasted bird and hand-made dough yielding tender dumplings. Entrées include Cajun meatloaf, pot roast and fresh salmon patties served with house-made orange honey butter. Sandwich options range from Eastern Carolina-style pork barbecue to the bacon, lettuce and fried green tomato version of the BLT. Vegetarian options are legion, including “soysage” and veggie loaf sliders. Be sure to save room for the vanilla bourbon sweet potato pie; we also suggest the chocolate pecan and Key lime pies. The short wine list deals largely in inexpensive quaffs, while Charlotte’s own Olde Mecklenburg Copper highlights a well-chosen short draught list of brews.
