Dish Restaurant Review: In a relaxed, cozy environment, thrift store art and award plaques line the walls of Dish, creating a down-home atmosphere. Good starters include fried green tomatoes, homemade pimento cheese, deviled eggs, collard dip, roasted garlic and red pepper hummus, and biscuits and gravy. The signature chicken and dumplings relies for its goodness on a butter-basted roasted bird and handmade dough yielding tender dumplings. Entrées include all the home-style standards, including pot roast, country fried steak and fresh salmon patties, plus a few twists on the standbys, such as the Cajun meatloaf. Substantial salads are available, and sandwich options range from Eastern Carolina-style pork barbecue to the bacon, lettuce and fried green tomato version of the BLT. Vegetarian options are legion, including “soysage” and veggie loaf sliders. Be sure to save room for the vanilla bourbon sweet potato pie; we also suggest the chocolate pecan and Key lime pies. The short wine list deals largely in inexpensive quaffs, while Charlotte’s own Olde Mecklenburg Copper highlights a well-chosen short draught list.
