Dobson's Restaurant Restaurant Review: Named for its affable owner Paul Dobson, one of America’s only bullfighters, Dobson’s has remained a downtown power-lunch destination for more than 25 years. The interior has an old-school feel, with dark-wood paneling and a massive bar, while the kitchen turns out California cuisine with light splashes of Italian, Spanish and Asian influence. Mussel bisque en croûte is a signature dish; alternatively, start with the steamed Mediterranean black mussels bathed in yellow curry. Marsala-marinated Black Mission figs and thyme jus add the proper balance of sweet and savory to bistro-style chicken. Sautéed sea bass is enlivened with roasted corn, sweet peppers, pancetta and saffron aïoli, while seared sea scallops nestle in an herb verde sauce with oven-dried tomatoes, spinach and caramelized onions. Filet mignon, wild salmon and veal chops round out the menu. Bananas Foster with vanilla bean ice cream and a tawny port may end the meal. Lunch favorites include the "bar room burger" with bacon and cheddar and grilled lamb chops with a white bean arugula salad. Dobson's presence sets the friendly tone and keeps customers coming back. |
