Dough Pizzeria & Bar Restaurant Review

: On the Sunset Strip, in the former Frankie & Johnnie's space, is this vibrant rock 'n' roll trattoria. Late-night scenesters can indulge in traditional yet gourmet pizza --- we’re partial to the savory Italian sausage with shaved fennel, roasted pepper and fennel pollen. There’s also an elegant burrata pie with spinach and sun-dried tomato, or inventive options like chicken and waffles and braised short rib Korean barbecue. Even so, promising young chef Parker Shaw has higher ambitions that elevate the menu with some memorable dishes. Share plates are generous, but diners still may fight for the last stuffed squash blossom with ricotta, lime zest, pork belly and frisée. Another standout is tender roasted octopus alongside crispy red quinoa and fried broccolini. Fettuccine with pancetta and chicken bathes in a velvet white sauce and poached egg yolk, while a fine Atlantic salmon with crisped skin harmonizes with roasted corn succotash, caramelized leeks and smoked tomato vin. Fried dough is a dessert that’s made to share. A smart craft cocktail program brings this spot to an unexpected level, though thirsty revelers can still expect a cold pitcher of draft beer.
