THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED East Borough Restaurant Review:

Even if East Borough feels like a neighborhood restaurant, it’s worth the drive to discover Vietnam-born chef Chloe Tran’s cuisine. The décor is reminiscent of that part of the world with French tiles on the floor, blond wood chairs and tables, and a giant black-and-white photo of the streets of Saigon. The food is simple but very tasty, and it will make you want to return. Start with the small plates: daikon rice cake topped with an egg on a bed of shiitake mushroom, flavored with spicy soy, or the imperial rolls made with fried pork and taro. There is also wok-fried baby octopus served on Brussels sprouts in a sweet chili sauce. Shared plates include a whole crispy trout that’s seasoned with grilled pineapple and anchovy vinaigrette, accompanied by sambal and butter jasmine rice. We liked the Vietnamese fried chicken made hot by a spicy tamarind-glazed chicory salad mixed with rau ram and peanuts. You cannot leave without having the coffee pot de crème or the fried banana to dip into salted caramel. There are some interesting specialty cocktails unless you prefer a beer (bottles or draft).
