| Tucked into a pedestrian alleyway in busy Old Pasadena is this former coffee bar which once appeared in shows like Beverly Hills 90210 and Melrose Place. It has now transformed into a hip, pan-Asian eatery and lounge. Crystal chandeliers hang over a prominent glass-tiled bar, while candlelight winks from tables lined along banquettes with throw pillows. Bronzed Buddha statuettes provide the requisite Asian ambience, reflected in a menu laced with Chinese, Thai, Korean and Japanese inspirations. Rice cakes topped with spicy tuna rival those at some of L.A.’s famous hot-spots, while seared albacore drizzled with ponzu and topped with crispy onions is a good way to pass time with a martini or a friend. One of the best entrées is a dish of cubed filet mignon with a classically inspired black pepper sauce with honey and basil. On weekends, authentic dim sum specialties are served alongside more contemporary fare. |
