THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Fat Fish Restaurant Review:

The food at this trend-driven WeHo storefront is surprisingly good for the setting, service and ambience. The menu, which focuses on a very Angeleno version of sushi, plays with ingredients both traditional (tabiko, uni, unagi) and American (smoked salmon, sprouts, cream cheese and something called fat fish sauce), in a compilation that is at once amusing and creative. Witness sushi rolls with names like Love Roll, Nutty Roll and Philly Roll. The appetizers---including teriyaki filet mignon, a seaweed salad with plump sliced mushrooms and a composed sashimi plate called ahi tuna special must try---are all equally interesting and well prepared. The atmosphere is more Trader Vic's than Osaka---there's even a flaming sushi roll. Yet, it lacks that particular South Seas fantasy's sense of fun. Service can be slow, as in raise-the-white-flag slow, and the staff at once unusually chatty and ineffective. Luckily, the extensive drinks menu, including fresh litchi, mango and kiwi daiquiris, offers pages of entertainment.
