Felix's Restaurant & Oyster Bar Restaurant Review: Located directly across the street from Acme Oyster House, this French Quarter seafooder is best approached as a speedier alternative for getting a dozen or so cold, freshly shucked oysters, rather than anticipated as a true sit-down dining experience. Walk right in and pick out a spot at the oyster bar where the rapidly moving shuckers stand ready to serve; the experience of watching them work is unparalleled in the world of oyster enjoyment. Venture further into the restaurant or the menu, however, and be warned that nothing else is done with much care or creativity. Don’t leave without trying the turtle soup, and the shrimp po’ boy is a standout as well. The house gumbo can hold its own with the best restaurants in the French Quarter, and the sweet potato fries are strictly Southern. If you want the full New Orleans experience, stay for a huge slice of red velvet cake. For a quaff, there is a small wine list, but we suggest you pop a cold brew. |
