Dining room at Fig & Olive, West Hollywood, CAAfter taking root in New York with a handful of restaurants, Fig & Olive has branched out with this location in West Hollywood. The split-level space features a Champagne lounge upstairs, a contemporary-styled dining room anchored by an olive tree, a garden room, and a bar/lounge with a 50-foot marble bar and communal table. Overseeing the menu of Mediterranean fare is executive chef Pascal Lorange, who starts guests off with a tasting of extra virgin olive oils. Diners are then faced with the difficult task of choosing between assortments of olives, cheeses and charcuterie and light bites like zucchini carpaccio with Picholine olive oil, lemon, pine nuts and Parmesan, and grilled Santa Barbara spot prawn marinated with oregano and lemon and served with saffron aïoli. For main dishes, opt for salmon aux fines herbs or rosemary lamb chops accompanied by roasted eggplant and goat cheese and chive gnocchi. The focus on olive oil is cleverly carried on in the warm marzipan cake with olive oil gelato, but the desserts are somewhat lacking compared to the rest of the meal. The carefully curated wine list offers selections from the South of France, Spain and Italy.
