Fireside Restaurant Review:
As the name suggests, this Midtown restaurant is laden with fire. Fireplaces, that is. Warm up in a nicely appointed dining room that has British Manor House accents like chandeliers and moldings. There are also a few New-Agey elements to the design, such as bright-red Chesterfield sofas and polka-dotted chairs. The all-over-the-place menu includes feisty tomatillo short ribs, spirited mojito lamb chops and sassy Lady apples carrying foie gras. Escargots profiteroles and wild boar Bolognese strozzapreti sound adventurous, but lack fire. While the patinas of gold and silver applaud the kitchen’s effort, toasting with a hibiscus sidecar and an elderflower Collins is not a bad idea. After all, Fireside reminds you of a hotheaded teenager trying to be classy.
