Five Happiness Restaurant Review: Five Happiness’ stock-in-trade is familiar Chinese-American fare: sweet-and-sour anything, fried rice, chow mein and crackly egg rolls. This typical hit parade keeps the place busy. The menu's few exotic flavors include pungently seasoned pot stickers, fine steamed meat buns, crunchy soft-shell crabs or tender crawfish tails in hot garlic sauce. Crispy whole fish with fresh steamed vegetables (available with a choice of five sauces) is a good dinner for two. Check out the specials board in the lobby before you sit down --- some of the restaurant’s best creations are there. For dessert, the almond cookies are always delightful, but the honey banana provides a smooth finish. The colorful Hong Kong Hollywood dining room is festooned with gilded dragons and openwork screens. After a redo produced a welcome upgrade, Five Happiness became a comfortable spot to bring out-of-town guests. |
