Fraîche’s airy space features a glass façade, an open kitchen and a roomy sidewalk patio. The kitchen’s refined Italian menu offers French accents and knockout dishes like braised rabbit tortelli with sage brown butter and crisp shaved artichokes; farro with English peas, roasted peppers and Pecorino; and hearty lamb stew with ricotta gnocchi and zesty gremolata. Unfortunately, not every dish dazzles. An underdressed wild mushroom salad could use more focus on the fungus, centering instead on red endive and frisée. Crisp-skinned black cod is well cooked, but doesn’t meld with tart green apples. Wine drinkers can expect a well-chosen, phonebook-size wine list. Desserts may include a rhubarb-studded brown butter hazelnut financier sharing its plate with orange segments, a scoop of vanilla ice cream and curls of meringue. Chiffon cake features strawberry mousse and a slab of rose ice cream, adding Middle Eastern flair.
