The French Room Restaurant Review: This architecturally charming, romantic restaurant has been the scene of many marriage proposals, and it would be hard to spurn someone who had the elegance and the class to invite you to dine at The French Room. They don't miss a trick here, be it the food, wine or service --- and the jacket-required policy is enough of a novelty today that it seems appealing rather than annoying. Whether you choose the chef’s tasting menu or compose your own three-course prix-fixe menu, you will have a topnotch dining experience. Look for deluxe tidbits like Hudson Valley foie gras with avocado cream, oven-roasted tomato, crostini and quince jam; the first bite tells you the kitchen, overseen by chef Marcos Segovia, knows its stuff. Deft handling of seafood and the obligatory Black Angus beef keep diners coming back as often as the cash flow allows. Do leave room for dessert, such as the warm apple tart or soufflé. The wine list highlights offerings from France and California.
