Frida Mexican Cuisine Restaurant Review: This branch of the Beverly Hills original is one of the highpoints of the dining scene at The Americana at Brand, the pedestrian-friendly mixed-used development that is the Eastside’s version of The Grove. An expansive patio provides people-watching pleasure while enjoying good chips with a trio of salsas, but the interior is sleek, with soaring wood-clad walls, contemporary lighting and a large, dramatically illuminated bar. This is no neighborhood cantina with sombreros and serapes, and the menu is equally distinctive. Frida Glendale continues owner Vicente Del Rio's passion for offering a more sophisticated brand of traditional Mexican cuisine, with dishes such as octopus ceviche, carpaccio de atún (thinly sliced tuna with avocado, onions, cilantro and green chile) and sautéed prawns in an orange-tequila sauce. A Oaxacan mole sampling is available, and Yucatán-style cochinita pibil appears on the menu, as well as tacos made with rib-eye and lobster. More than a dozen wines are offered by the glass, but the focus is on more than 30 available tequilas and mezcals that go into a wide array of margaritas and specialty cocktails. For dessert, you’ll find churros, flan and tres leches cake. Also located at 236 S. Beverly Dr., Beverly Hills, 310-278-7666.
