THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED Gallery 101 Bistro Restaurant Review: Gallery 101 Bistro is one of the most ambitious undertakings in the downtown scene; not only does it act as a gallery to local and regional sculptors and painters, but its own interior pleases with its art deco-meets-industrial quirkiness. The name comes from its location in Theater Place, not from the traffic-free section of Main Street where it vies for the patronage of the theater crowd. In inventiveness and presentation, Gallery 101 matches its ambient aspirations. The recurring sea bass special with wasabi vinaigrette is served with jumbo tiger prawns, plum tomatoes, and a lemon skewered on top to form a tower. The pan-seared pork tenderloin glazed with ginger and tamarind is served with a pillbox of rice topped with a tangle of caramelized onion, papaya salsa and a chive pennant. One of our favorites is the veal baked in puff pastry, stewed with cabbage, onion, tomato and juniper. From the glass of wine while poring over the menu to desserts, Gallery 101 offers treats for the eyes as well as the palate.
