Girl & The Goat Restaurant Review

: Stephanie Izard --- winner of the fourth season of "Top Chef" --- partnered with Boka Restaurant Group’s Rob Katz and Kevin Boehm (Boka, Perennial Virant, GT Fish & Oyster, Balena, The J. Parker) to open this fashionably unassuming West Loop eatery. Rustic details --- including brick and burlap colored walls, vintage ceramic tiles and Edison light bulbs --- meet a frequently changing, sharable menu that’s categorized by meat, fish and vegetable dishes; most all reveal unexpected twists and turns. Start with the warm marinated olives, chickpea fritters or escargot ravioli with bacon and tamarind-miso sauce. The restaurant’s namesake, too, appears in ways you may not expect. For example, there’s the goat carpaccio with smoked trout roe and olive-maple vinaigrette. Desserts are every bit as off-kilter-tasty, so grab a seat next to the kitchen line to watch the frenetic action, and prepare to be wowed by something like the miso-butterscotch budino. House-blended wine and craft beers make up the bar menu. For something more casual, check out Little Goat Diner, 820 W. Randolph St., 312-888-3455.
