 Horn of Africa Restaurant Review: What began years ago as a popular Saturday Market food cart where East African immigrants Mohamed and Khadija prepared the traditional dishes of their homeland is now a restaurant located in the gleaming Vanport Square complex. The menu offers tastes of Ethiopia, Somalia and Djibouti, along with some Middle Eastern choices. Design your own “African family circle platter” with entrées such as chicken in an Ethiopian red pepper sauce and grilled wild salmon marinated in garlic and Zanzibar spices. Vegetarians and vegans will find many appealing options featuring greens, flax seed, fava beans, lentils and seasonal vegetables. A favorite task is sopping up Ethiopian stews with spongy injera bread. Hungry bargain-hunters will go for the "all you can eat" lunchtime buffet. Beer and wine are available, or perhaps try the sweet-tart mango lassi. |
