One of the first big Monterey Park-style restaurants to open on the Westside, J.R.'s décor may be plain, but its Cantonese seafood specialties are tops. Clams, jumbo shrimp, crabs, lobsters and a variety of seawater and freshwater fish, all priced by the pound, await your selection in gurgling tanks. (You may not know the damage until the bill is presented.) The shrimp with spicy salt is so irresistible that only the cruelest of cardiologists would forbid it. For the adventurous, there's jelly fish with or without octopus.
