Jax Bar & Grill Restaurant Review: A longtime jazz venue, this cozy club offers a busy bar, comfortable booths illuminated by Tiffany-style lamps, and walls lined with musically oriented art and some antique instruments --- all providing a pleasant aura of a bygone era. The menu starts with calamari with sweet Cajun rémoulade, sautéed shrimp a la Barcelona topped with mozzarella and prosciutto, and plenty of salads. Move on to club-era large plates like steak Diane, chicken Marsala, home-style meatloaf with mushroom gravy, and shrimp scampi. Bread pudding with a bourbon sauce and a rotating fruit cobbler make for welcomed desserts. The wine list includes a few select artisan California producers. |
