Julienne Fine Foods & Celebrations Restaurant Review: This little café, with its marble tables spilling out onto the sidewalk in quaint “downtown” San Marino, is sometimes dismissed as simply a place for well-heeled ladies who lunch. However, Julienne effectively rebuts that narrow reputation. The cooking is Provençal-style and seasonal, and you can enjoy a lovely lunch of chicken-tarragon salad with house-baked rosemary bread, Parmesan-crusted swordfish in lemon-caper sauce, or a simple, classic French onion soup and croque monsieur. A short, moderately priced and thoughtful wine list is offered, too. Breakfasts (consider omelets, house-made granola or french toast) are topnotch, and there's a gourmet shop adjoining the café. The restaurant---the polished interior is fashioned after an upscale Provençal bistro---is regularly rented out for parties in the evening hours, and Julienne is one of the area’s top catering companies.
