This well-located Sunset Junction restaurant picks up the slack (and the slackers) where now-closed Eat Well left off, but with vastly improved food and atmosphere. And though it also has a sibling---Kokomo Café on Beverly---the hipster vibe is decidedly local. Contemporary eco-industrial décor is airy and comfortable---sleek grey booths, blond wood chairs, cork, polished concrete and high exposed ceilings. Sidewalk tables are good for people-watching, and the kitchen offers unpretentious, modern American food at good prices. For dinner, expect some fancier options like fennel-roasted Niman Ranch pork ribs, or maple-and-mustard-grilled salmon; signature lunch plates include a bourbon barbecue steak sandwich, lime curry chicken salad, and a first-rate burger. One of the best dishes is the fried green tomato salad on a heaping bed of baby arugula, dotted with goat cheese and pecans in a citrusy vinaigrette. Brunch becomes a local weekend destination for a slew of pancake, waffle and fancy egg dishes, including catfish and eggs, eggs Sardou and our favorite---poached Eggs Blackstone with grilled tomato, double-smoked bacon and Meyer lemon hollandaise. Meats are organic, fish is sustainably sourced, and coffee is by Gavina.
