 Another of Anchorage’s strip mall gourmet restaurants, the Kincaid Grill is almost elegant, yet not pretentious, with an understated, refreshing décor. Simple bamboo colors and clean lines define the long, narrow dining room and bar. Presiding over the kitchen is “Chef Al” Levinsohn, who locals recognize from his TV appearances---a colorful character. Appetizers might include a lamb lollipop with peanut sauce while main courses may range from lobster risotto with a saffron, tomato and basil chiffonade---rich and utterly indulgent---to the spicy cassoulet with pork shank, andouille sausage, smoked duck breast and white beans. Dessert temptations include the Gâteau de Mure, blackberry cake with lemon sauce, and a cheese plate featuring three imported cheeses paired with a cranberry-fig compote and Melba toast. Wine lovers will want to check out the Wine Weekdays, a prix-fixe meal with wines paired with each course. The wine list here is sizable with a decent selection of recognizable labels.
