| More East Village than Los Angeles, The Kitchen reflects its Silver Lake neighborhood's counter-culture. With exposed brick walls and concrete flooring (grunge in a good way), the intimate café boasts only a handful of tables and one large booth. Everything here is simple and straightforward, from the décor to the attitude to the cuisine. The Kitchen's kitchen turns out an eclectic mix of comfort foods from meatloaf to sesame-crusted albacore to a tofu sauté. We like the cornbread with chunks of onion and peppers, and also recommend the buttermilk fried chicken. What the menu lacks in creativity and refinement, it makes up for in quality, flavor and value. The chefs here clearly know their way around The Kitchen. |
