French-born owner Laurent Masliah wanted La Seine to be the kind of kosher restaurant that appeals to everybody. Shattering preconceptions of kosher restaurants, he brought in a veteran sushi chef as well as “Top Chef” alum Alex Reznik to handle the food while keeping the place strictly kosher. In addition to sushi and sashimi, appetizers include veal sweetbread nuggets with fig marmalade and soups elegantly poured tableside. Entrées range from steaks with béarnaise sauce to pastas to Bordeaux-braised short ribs with polenta. The very respectable wine list is surprisingly global, with kosher wines from France, South Africa, California and Israel, and handcrafted kosher ales are also available. Desserts include crème brûlée and chocolate soufflé, and the lounge offers a variety of live music.
