THIS RESTAURANT IS CLOSED La Serenata de Garibaldi Restaurant Review:

Jose Rodriguez and wife Aurora opened this authentic Mexican restaurant in 1985, naming their Boyle Heights establishment for the Spanish expression for “serenade.” Word spread once downtown lawyers and government workers made La Serenata a top lunch option. Jose Rodriguez is known as the “Maestro de Salsas,” offering more than 30 varieties of chile sauce. Basic dishes like fish tacos and gorditas are well above average, but the reason to visit La Serenata is to sample inventive seafood preparations. Grilled scallops are sautéed with spinach and poblano peppers, and served alongside sweet potato mash. There are also giant prawns grilled in a spicy, tangy sauce of onions, garlic and chile. Other regional Mexican specialties include boneless chicken breast with a mole sauce, as well as seasonal green corn tamales. Jose’s son Marco makes the tortillas and pastries onsite daily. Finish strong with a textbook flan or a slice of cheesecake.
