Great Wine List

In a former filling station turned antiques shop, Leon’s Full Service offers a distinguished beer list, with both draughts and bottles reaching to the depths and heights of brewdom. The extensive wine list ranges the planet without ever connecting with a conventional or commercial brand. Spirits show the same care of selection. Chef Eric Ottensmeyer grew up in Berlin, Germany, and he has a gift for making sausages in-house, and we miss his better-than-Berlin curry wurst. The team supports local purveyors, so the grass-fed beef comes from a supplier in west Georgia. Unfortunately, the fat content varies and the burger, even if ordered rare, can seem dry and lack flavor. The fresh-cut fries, though, are first-rate, and may be enjoyed with any of several homemade sauces (we opt for the house-made aïoli). Stout-braised beef brisket is piled into a thick slice of crusty bread and served open-face, making a light meal for a cold evening. While all desserts tempt, the buttermilk panna cotta gets our vote. Counter Culture coffee in French press pots and espresso is another high point.
